“Today” show fans and employees alike were left in shock on Wednesday when NBC announced that veteran host Matt Lauer had been fired for serious accusations of sexual misconduct.
NBC Chairman Andy Lack said in a statement that the decision came after “serious review of a detailed complaint from a colleague,” according to earlier reports.
Since the surprising decision was made public, footage of Lauer’s seemingly inappropriate sexual behavior and comments about it have come to light.
And now, a 2009 interview between the host and actress Sandra Bullock is garnering some negative attention.
According to the Huffington Post, Lauer was interviewing the two-time Oscar winner while she was promoted her new movie, “The Proposal.”
But the interview got off to a strange start. Lauer immediately informed Bullock that he had seen her without clothing thanks to the film’s many nude scenes. He told the actress:
“The major thing that’s changed since I’ve seen you last: I have seen you naked.”
With a cringe, Bullock laughed and tried to make light of the comment. She told the veteran host:
“And I’m so sorry about that. Were you able to sleep afterwards?”
Lauer then informed her that he was keeping the nude photo as his “screensaver” and commented that she was nude for “most of” the movie, according to the Daily Mail.
Later in the interview, he asked again if he had brought up her nude scene in the film. Bullock replied:
“Pretty much from the time you opened your mouth.”
She later joked that she wouldn’t come back on the “Today” show following the interview.
This isn’t the first disturbing interview to come to light recently.
As Dearly previously reported, in a 2012 interview Lauer’s longtime colleague Katie Couric admitted that he annoyingly liked to pinch her “on the ass.” A clip of the interview has garnered attention since news of his firing broke.
Lauer has since apologized for his behavior and admitted the allegations had “enough truth” to embarrass him.
