Eight years later, the drama following Michael Jackson’s death is still making headlines. When the singer passed away in 2009, not only was there scandal regarding his death, but also his three children.

According to TMZ, Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, and his nephew, TJ Jackson, were granted joint custody of his three children in 2012.

The oldest, Michael Joseph Jackson, is now 20 years old while the second oldest, Paris, is 19, leaving just the youngest, Prince Michael, now known as Blanket, 15, as the last child in need of a legal guardian.

According to TMZ, however, he is reportedly down one — his grandmother.

The gossip site reported that Katherine Jackson is abdicating her role as co-guardian of Blanket.

According to legal documents filed by her, per TMZ, she stated several reasons for bowing out of the role. Firstly, Blanket is now 15 years old and, as a result, no longer needs two full-time guardians.

Secondly, she referenced her own age, 87, saying that’s another reason she is looking to bow out from the guardianship.

TMZ also previously noted that Katherine has reportedly not seen the kids for months now, although it’s unclear why.

Despite the ever-fluctuating dynamic within the Jackson family, a judge is still needed to OK Katherine’s request to officially make her guardianship a thing of the past. So, for now, nothing has changed (on paper) just yet.
