On October 16, Ashley Goette awoke to the scare of her life as her husband Andrew Goette gasped for air next to her.

At 39 weeks pregnant, Goette called 911 believing her husband was in cardiac arrest. As ABC 15 reports, the 911 dispatcher had to walk Ashley through how to perform life-saving CPR over the phone.

Andrew was then rushed to a local hospital where doctors thought it would be best to place the soon-to-be dad in a medically induced coma to minimize the possibility of brain damage.

At the time, it was unclear to the medical team caring for Andrew if he would sustain any sort brain damage or if he would even survive.

However, as ABC 15 reports, Ashley didn’t lose hope. She reportedly promised her husband that she would do whatever she could to not have the baby until he awoke from the coma.

And she kept that promise.

Andrew did eventually come out of the coma just in time for the birth of their firstborn child.

And not only was he awake, but neurologically, Andrew was fine and aware when his wife was giving birth to their firstborn son.

However, being that he was a patient himself, Andrew was unable to be in the operating room during his wife’s c-section.

Luckily for Andrew though, he didn’t miss a moment of his son’s birth. Ashley’s sister FaceTimed the special moment for the doting dad, as he watched behind closed doors.

Ashley took to her Facebook page on October 20 to announce the birth of their first child, Lennon.

Ashley wrote:

Meet Lennon, born last night at 5:16 pm, weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces and measuring at 21.5 inches long. After a miraculous week, we couldn’t feel more blessed to be going home a family of three.
