Washington man Joel Cruz was the victim of an innocent prank a decade ago, but it seems he never managed to get over it.

As KIMA-TV reports, as a joke, Cruz’s brother farted in his face.

On Wednesday, the 29-year-old Cruz was sitting alone in his parents’ Yakima home when his anger over the prank came flooding back to him.

Police said he then entered the kitchen and filled a pot with vegetable oil, turned the stove on high, and bolted out of the house. The home soon erupted in flames.

Cruz told authorities he heard voices in his head before torching the house, which he blamed on the 10-year-old prank.

KIMA-TV reports Cruz was given a mental evaluation, then police attempted to have the man admitted to a state hospital. But he was turned away because he was too dangerous to himself and others.

According to The New York Post, Cruz’s alleged actions left parts of his parents’ home with visible smoke damage.
