A Lyft driver was returning home around 3 a.m. after his last ride when to his dismay he spotted a 2-year-old outside his apartment building in below-freezing temperatures.

The toddler was all alone standing barefoot in a snowbank outside a building in Worcester, Massachusetts, with no coat or shoes, reports WBZ.

It was 15-degrees on Wednesday morning. According to the Telegram, the toddler was crying and borderline hypothermic when Ashton Mazyck found her.

Ashton said:

“When I first saw her, it was this precious little girl. She looked at me, tears in her eyes, and I just felt all sorts of emotions.

I had to make sure she was safe. I wanted her to feel safe.”

Concerned for the child he called his mom in the middle of the night before calling the police. His mother, Vida Mazyck, said:

“Ashton is like ‘mom come quickly. Bring a blanket.

He says, ‘I found a little child standing outside.’”

Vida told My Highplains:

“I tried to warm her feet. Rubbed her feet. Put socks on. But it was if I was holding ice.

The first thing that came to mind was the incident in New Hampshire.”

According to AP News, earlier this month a 2-year-old froze death in bitter cold temperatures just outside of her front door. The toddler managed to escape her home and couldn’t get back in.

Ashton said he’s just thankful he found the girl just in time in order to save her from the same tragic fate. He explained:

“I just thank god for allowing me to be at the right place at the right time.”

Ashton warmed the child in his apartment and called the police.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Police believe she wandered outside while her grandmother was sleeping. The child’s mother was working an overnight shift at the time of the incident.

No charges have been filed against the family. The child has been released to her mom.

Thank God this little one survived! So sad that the child from Mass died. What a tragedy! Lock your doors!

The writer of the story spelled “god” with a small “g”.
When you thank “God” the creator of the universe a capital “G” should be used.

Thank you for mentioning that God should be capitalized when thanking Him! My pet peeve. I hate seeing that especially from people who claim to serve Him

God hardly belong to a “sex”, as in He, Him or His. Does anyone really think an entity that could create a universe has a penis? That IS what being a Him means you know.

Well I certainly think they do and why wouldn’t they.

You obviously haven’t read the Bible.

Exactly! I noticed that, too. Should have said something! Glad you did!

Yes, thank “God” the child was found by this young man who was thoughtful enough to take immediate action. Thank you, Ashton Mazyck!!!!!

Hopefully, the family of the little girl will have learned to ensure that the little girl doesn’t go wandering out of their apartment, by both adding better childproof locks on the door to the apartment and instructing the girl about not leaving. Whoever of that family who watches her will need to be more diligent. Thank the Lord that man came home when he did and saved that girl from freezing to death.
