Basketball superstar LeBron James may be best known for his skills on the court, but the Los Angeles Lakers forward is also a loving father.

LeBron and his wife, Savannah, have three children together, 14-year-old LeBron Jr., 11-year-old Bryce, and 3-year-old Zhuri.

His two sons are following in dad’s footsteps — they’re already excelling in basketball. And LeBron couldn’t help but gush about their maturity following practice on Tuesday, People reports.

But one of the athlete’s comments has now landed him in hot water.

He told reporters outside the Lakers practice facility:

“I got very mature 14- and 11-year-olds. My 14- and 11-year-olds drink wine, that’s how mature they are.”

When asked what kind of wine they drink, LeBron said usually “whatever dad and mom are having.” He continued:

“Put it on me, though. Don’t put it on mom (Savannah). Put it on dad, put it on dad.”

He also joked, “They’ll be driving next week, too.”

LeBron’s comment prompted a flurry of responses on social media. Some Facebook users wrote that he was being “sarcastic,” while others were upset with his parenting decisions.

One commenter wrote:

Any regular person saying this on TV would be arrested for child endangerment and have their children place in foster care.

Another said:

Lmfao….14 and 11 consuming booz. Pretty sure that’s ILLEGAL. Dont be a parent like this guy folks. Great ball player. Thinks hes invincible.

The father has not clarified the comments since the interview went viral.

At what age do you think it’s appropriate to start drinking wine? Let us know in the comments.
