It’s been years since basketball star Lamar Odom suffered from an overdose that nearly cost him his life, but he’s still struggling to recover mentally and physically.

The 39-year-old opened up about his progress in his new book, “Darkness to Light,” which comes out later this month.

In the memoir, he admits that he was a “sex addict” with a cocaine problem in 2015 when the overdose occurred, the Daily Mail reports.

That’s what ultimately cost him his marriage to ex-wife Khloé Kardashian, he wrote:

At the start of our marriage I was faithful to her… I could not handle the lethal cocktail of the spotlight, addiction, a diminishing career and infidelity.

Though Kardashian knew he was unfaithful, she still stayed by his side after the overdose. He wrote:

Khloé never left my side. She didn’t shower for days. Kim’s resiliency was incredible too. They put chairs together for her to sleep across at night.

His overdose caused 12 strokes and six heart attacks, which left him debilitated. Odom told People in a new interview:

“Waking up [on Oct. 16], I was pulling the tubes out of my throat. And I was trying to talk but I couldn’t get the words out. That was the scariest part. And not being able to walk. I’m a big athlete you know?”

He added that he now has “horrible memory loss” following the overdose.

Despite his struggles, Odom has worked to remain drug-free for the past few years. He said:

“[The overdose] made me realize I couldn’t live the way I’d been living. Life is too good.”

Odom made his decision to get clean in part due to his daughter, Destiny. In a 2017 interview, she told People that she gave her father a choice:

“I basically gave him the ultimatum that it was rehab or me not speaking to him anymore. I think that hit him really hard.”

Thankfully, it seems her tough love helped him get on the road to recovery.

Odom’s book, “Darkness to Light,” will be released on May 28.
