Just over a month ago, reality star and makeup mogul Kylie Jenner swore off posting images of her 5-month-old daughter, Stormi Webster, to social media.

After cropping her daughter’s face out of an Instagram photo, the new mom wrote:

Yeah I cut my baby out. I’m not sharing photos of my girl right now.

But it seems Jenner is putting her baby back in the social media spotlight. She posted a sweet video playing with her bundle of joy to Snapchat.

Now, she’s getting slammed after fans noticed one small detail.

Some social media users shamed the 20-year-old for piercing her infant daughter’s ears. They claimed mothers should wait until their kids are much older to make the decision.

One Instagram user wrote

How can she put holes in her baby! Awful, I could never cause my baby unnecessary pain.

According to InStyle, some fans said that getting ears pierced under six months “shouldn’t be allowed.” But Instagram users jumped to the mother’s defense.

One fan wrote:

I’m a nurse and babies don’t develop cartilage until they about close to 1. Ya they will cry for 3 mins but it won’t hurt them after that. I know cause I pierced my 3 month baby ears and she is ALIVE.

According to Parents Magazine, experts advise that parents wait to pierce their baby’s ears until at least six months of age due to the risk of infection. Wendy Sue Swanson, M.D. told the magazine:

“Any time you puncture the skin, you open up the opportunity for infection, and because infants still have developing immune systems, I encourage parents to wait until their child is at least 6 months old to get her ears pierced.”

But parents who do opt to pierce their baby’s ears can get a prescription for topical numbing cream to decrease the pain.

Jenner’s sister, Khloe Kardashian, recently received similar criticism for piercing 2-month-old daughter’s ears.
