A mother’s bond with her children is like nothing else in this world. Of course, a grandparent, father or even legal guardian can love a child just as much, but sometimes it seems as though there is nothing purer than the love a mother has for her children.

Of course, there are always exceptions, and sadly, 44-year-old Patricia Ann Spann seems to be one of those.

According to KSWO, Patricia is now behind bars after marrying her 26-year-old daughter Misty Velvet Dawn Spann. Patricia reportedly lost custody of her three children years ago, when they were just young kids. Her daughter and two sons were then raised by their grandfather on their dad’s side.

But in 2014, Patricia and Misty linked back up after years apart, and according to Misty, they really “hit it off.” Normally, that would be a good thing, meaning the two were getting along. But in this case, it meant something else.

Per the Daily Mail, Misty told police that shortly after reuniting, they began discussing the possibility of adopting a child together. Then, Misty’s mom convinced her not only to get married, but also that it wasn’t against the law to do so.

Unfortunately for Misty, she listened to her mother.

Stephens County Jail

The two married in March 2016 but were arrested several months later in September in Stephens County, Oklahoma, after a Department of Human Services child welfare worker realized what their actual relationship was.

But horrifyingly enough, Misty wasn’t the first one of Patricia’s kids that she married.

According to KSWO, Patricia also married her son in 2008.

Although, in her son’s case, Patricia explicitly told officials their marriage was solely to avoid him getting deployed by the military. Two years after she tied the knot with her son, their marriage was annulled — as was her marriage to her daughter, who reportedly explained she was convinced “by fraud to enter the marriage.”

Patricia’s other son Cody Spann told KSWO he’s never had sexual or inappropriate relations with his mother, but he clarified that she definitely tried:

She only tried it once and I told her to get lost, I would never be with my biological mom, that is disgusting, I came from that woman.

As for the moment they all reunited after years of separation, he said it didn’t take long for her to make a move on his brother:

We got told we actually had a real mom, so we wanted to know what she was about, the first thing she showed us she was about was trying to get in my brother’s pants.

He insisted, however, that all the responsibility lies on her shoulders:

I think she’s worthless she put my sister into this. She forced my sister into this, there’s a lot of people that know it. For you to want to put your own daughter through this, what kind of person are you?

If that’s what you want that’s on you, but none of us kids want that, and now you got my sister behind bars because of your choices, why don’t you let that sit on you as a mom.

Stephens County Jail

Duncan police officer Dustin Smith echoed part of that sentiment of responsibility, telling KSWO:

Based on what I’ve seen in the investigation I think it is very plausible that the children of Patricia were both manipulated, that being said they were both legal adults at the time of the marriage, so they had a choice whether to pursue this or not and they chose to get married.

On Tuesday, Misty pleaded guilty to incest in court and was sentenced 10 years of probation. Patricia, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty, but her case has been postponed until February so she can undergo a necessary surgery.

It’s unclear what lies ahead for Patricia, but one thing is for sure (hopefully): She will never marry another one of her children again.
