Keith Urban took the stage at the 2017 CMA Awards with two spotlights shining down on him, but he wasn’t the focus of the song he was performing.
After being named the winner in the Single of the Year category for “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” Urban returned to debut a new song, which was released just hours before his live performance, according to Taste of Country.
And even though Urban didn’t have his wife, Nicole Kidman, by his side, he still had her, their two daughters, and every other female on his mind when he took the stage. As he sang “Female,” words scrolled on the screen behind him highlighting roles a woman takes on in her life during his emotional performance.Keith Urban/Instagram
The lyrics touched the country singer who is surrounded by females in his life. As Urban told Billboard:
“As a husband and a father of two young girls, it affects me in a lot of ways. And as a son — my mother is alive. It just speaks to all of the females in my life, particularly. For a guy who grew up with no sisters in a house of boys, it’s incredible how now I’m surrounded by girls. But not only in my house; I employ a huge amount of women in my team. The song just hit me for so many reasons.”

Beautiful song! I swear you’re only getting better & better (don’t even know how that’s possible). Obviously your 3 girls at home have been a wonderful influence.

I never thought I would be watching the CMAs, but after listening to Keith Urban singing, ‘#Female’ tonight, I will forever see country in an entirely new light! That song is an Anthem of everything it is to be a Woman! I think I have my very first #CountryBoyCrush!
