Journalist Katie Couric shared some exciting news with fans on Sunday.
Her 27-year-old daughter, Ellie Monahan, is engaged! And the ring her fiancé used to propose is extra special to the mom’s heart.
It was the very same engagement ring Couric’s late husband, Ellie’s father Jay Monahan, gave to her, she confirmed.
The excited mom said she was left in “happy tears” from the news. She wrote:

Couric added that her future son-in-law asked her permission to propose and that she “kept a secret.”
Jay Monahan passed away in 1998 following a battle with colon cancer. Couric recently honored her late husband with an Instagram post on the 20th anniversary of his passing.
She wrote:

We miss you.
Their two daughters, Ellie, 27, and Caroline, 23, were just young children when he lost his battle with cancer.
But Couric said she knows he’d be happy to see their eldest engaged. The mom captioned the engagement photo, “#jaywouldbesoproud.”
Couric, who also lost her sister to cancer, has since remarried to John Molner, an investment banker.
Last year, the television host told People that they met after being set up by mutual friends. It was love at first sight, she said:
“He finally asked me out, we met at a restaurant and what can I say? He had me at hello.”
They tied the knot in 2014. And now, the family seems ready to celebrate another joyous union.
Couric did not reveal whether or not her daughter and fiancé have a date picked out for their upcoming nuptials.
