Earlier this year, Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley revealed her youngest child, two-year-old son Greyson was delayed when it came to speech development.

The mom of two took to Instagram to first reveal the struggles her son was having:

To everyone that tuned into @jerseyshore last night and messaged, commented etc about @greysonmathews with similar stories or just showing love I cant thank you enough. As a mother, I will go to the moon and back for my kids… no question. I live my life differently because of them. To find out Greyson is “behind” or “delayed” crushed me… but only for a moment… that moment came from wanting to have “perfect children” and “how could this happen to me?”… but Grey is PERFECT and it CAN happen to anyone.. I saw that last night when the messages came in by the hundreds. I decided to share that side of my family on Jersey Shore because I want to help anyone going through what I’m going through… I’m sure people need support the way I’ve needed it. Greyson is still in therapy 3x a week… he’s doing a lot better. We also changed his diet and removed unnecessary preservatives. I’ve had almost every test done you can think of because I’ll never accept that this is best case for Grey… I’ll always think outside the box and do anything that will try and help him achieve nothing short of greatness… I don’t sleep much lol. He’s my world and I want to give him the best life… because he deserves it 💙💙 and to my son @greysonmathews.. if you ever see this in the future… you’re mommy might be a bit crazy, loud and dramatic but when it comes to you and your sister… I will fight for you two until my last breath… and continue to fight for you after death… your mommy will hold your hand and stand by your side for eternity 💙💖

She then gave her fans an update on how her son was progressing in a YouTube video:

Many of her fans attempted to console JWoww, admitting that people they knew also didn’t hit their milestones quite how they were expected to as children, but yet they turned out fine:

My best friends brother didn’t talk until he was 5 and he is VERY successful, captain of his basketball team as a junior, gets A’s and B’s, great personality and vocabulary. Grayson will be great don’t worry about a thing!

He’ll be fine, my mom said I didn’t talk till 4, she said my 3 older brothers spoke for me, haha

Now, in an interview with Hollywood Life, the reality television star revealed Greyson has been officially diagnosed with autism:

“Greyson, he was recently diagnosed with autism.”

However, despite still being non-verbal, Greyson has made a lot of “positive” developments since JWoww and her husband started seeking professional help.

She continued:

“He has co-therapies [every] week but we’re going to step it up a notch soon and get him ABA treatments, speech therapy. …

“He’s made leaps and bounds when it comes to speech. He’s understanding words better which was his issue. Not that he couldn’t speak, but he would never know what his shoe is or if you said, ‘Greyson,’ he actually didn’t even know his name at one point until he was a little over two. So now that he’s understanding simple words, he’s come so far.”

The toddler has since learned how to simply communicate his wants and needs through sign language.

JWoww told Hollywood Life:

“He only did ‘blue’ for a year and within the last two weeks he knows green, yellow, red, white and he’s [doing sign language] so much more. I’m like a proud mom over here. The only thing that frustrated me is there was only one sign shown where he didn’t speak and a lot of people would be like, ‘Oh, his sister’s speaking for him,’ or, ‘He had nothing to say.’ Rather, her issue was that “he didn’t understand words,” and elaborated, “It was like I was speaking another language to him. That was the frustrating part because it didn’t fill in. He didn’t understand what you were saying.”

On November 10, the mom took to Instagram to reveal the sensory room they created for Greyson.

Cannot thank my girlfriend @traciljohnson enough for her time and connections within the autism community for putting us in contact with @kulturecity who set @greysonmathews up with his very own sensory room. We had the honor of hanging out with one of the most generous souls I’ve ever met @justinm_503 who flew here on his own time to build Greysons room. you will never meet a kinder soul willing to help those in need. This is a new realm for us. One filled with tons of information and different theory’s of treatments. So grateful Grey chose me to be his mommy and @rogermathewsnj to be his daddy 💙 We wont let him down. Mommy will work extra hard with my @naturallywoww family to ensure the best ingredients are used for his skin, and connect with organizations like @kulturecity who help autistic individuals be accepted, included and fulfill their potential.

Just like she said in her YouTube video, JWoww vowed — again — to do whatever she can to make sure her son is given the best chance for a successful future, despite being diagnosed with autism.
