When the New England Patriots fell to the Philadelphia Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s wife, Gisele Bündchen, helped softened the blow for her kids by giving them a quick pep talk after the game.Gisele Bündchen/Instagram
As Dearly previously reported, clearly bummed that their dad didn’t win his sixth Super Bowl game, Gisele told her kids:
“They [the Eagles] haven’t won in a million years.”
Then the mom was interrupted by their 5-year-old daughter Vivian, who exclaimed, “The Eagles won the Super Bowl.”
“Just this time. Daddy won five times. They never won before. Their whole life, they never won a Super Bowl. You have to let someone else win sometimes. We have to share. Sharing is caring.”
While Gisele’s message was most likely meant to be viewed as a positive teaching moment for her kids, some people began twisting the mom’s words. People took “you have to let someone else win sometimes,” as though she was saying that the Patriots let the Eagles win.Gisele Bündchen/Instagram
The most notable person to say something was ESPN reporter Trey Wingo, who tweeted:
Nobody “ let” anybody win anything. One team made more plays than the other. Period. https://t.co/D1Fv04zwx8

Gisele took to Twitter to clear the air:
Just to be clear. No one “let” anyone win. People win because of their own merit. Tired of people twisting my words to create drama that doesn’t exist!

Fans of the former supermodel assured the 37-year-old that she just did what any good mom would do:
Everyone with intelligence and reason totally understood. I sent a message to @karol explaining that you were using childlike language to share a message with children. And, that her interpretation was childish. No need to explain anything, Gisele.

Also, what you tell your young kids during an emotionally tough moment is nobody’s business.

Any decent parent understood what u were doing. Small minds can only see slights. Please do what you do. Mom-to-Mom <3

Don’t even worry about it @giseleofficial a good parent eases confusion and sadness in their kids because it breaks your heart. I told my kids animals were “sleeping” on side of road, lol. Guess I’m not giving the right “life lesson” who cares? You’re a good Mom.

Actor Donnie Wahlberg, who was with Gisele and her kids as she was trying to console them, used his wife Jenny McCarthy’s podcast to defend Gisele as well, saying that no matter what choice of words she used, her kids understood what she was trying to convey.
