The sibling rivalry between Jackie and Juliet Evancho all started when Jackie was five and Juliet, who was Jacob at the time, was seven.

As their mom, Lisa, revealed during the season premiere of TLC’s “Growing Up Evancho,” she first discovered Jackie’s talent while her five-year-old daughter was playing with her toys:

“One day, when Jackie was five, I heard this beautiful music and followed the sound and Jackie was playing with toys in her closet singing ‘Think of Me’ to herself. I said, ‘Was that you singing?’ She said yeah and I was like, ‘Wow.'”

Jackie took second place on the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent” when she was just 10-years-old and went on to become the youngest recording artist to ever go platinum that same year. She gained further notoriety when she agreed to perform for President Donald J. Trump’s Inauguration.

Juliet admitted during the episode that Jackie’s success put a rift in their relationship because it was a dream she always had for herself.

Juliet explained:

“Ever since I was little I really wanted to be a singer, and now our sister, Jackie, is a platinum selling recording artist.”

As Lisa acknowledged, Juliet was the first born child, who was used to having all of the attention. But when Jackie came along and “stole the show,” it took a toll on Juliet.

Juliet conceded that she and Jackie have always been competitive, and knowing that Jackie is living out the dream she had always wanted is, at times, “taxing on her emotions.”

Listen to Jackie and her then brother sing “Let It Be” together in 2012:

Jackie is very much aware of Juliet’s jealousy. She explained:

“The jealousy stems from the fact that I have this career that, I guess, she had always wanted and I didn’t know that. I just thought that she wanted to sing like every other kid does not the way I did.”

Jackie continued:

“Juliet and I have had out struggles. We are definitely not as close as we use to be.”

According to Juliet, she and Jackie were “inseparable” growing up, but due to the jealousy and fighting between the two of them, their relationship is now strained.

Surprisingly, 19-year-old Juliet is quick to take the blame for that:

“I know that a lot of it has to do with how I’ve treated [Jackie], because I was really jealous that Jackie is a girl and I wasn’t. It sucks because I want to be close with Jackie again like we were. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and I treated her poorly and I don’t expect her to forgive me for it, but I’m hopeful that things will get better again. I miss my best friend.”

Jackie admitted during the episode that her sister’s admission broke her heart:

Between Jackie using her platform to support transgender rights and Juliet forging her own path as a model, the two sisters seem to be getting their relationship back on track:

Hopefully, these two will be able to get back to being “best friends” as time goes on.
