In 2016, star of TLC’s “Kate Plus 8,” Kate Gosselin, told People that one of her sextuplets, Collin, was admitted into a treatment center because of his special needs.
She explained that it was a hard decision to make as a parent and one that she had to face “on her own.”
However, she believed that it was the best decision for her son.
Kate also said of Collin’s diagnosis:
“Collin has special needs. [There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this. By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him — our entire family has been impacted.”
Following that initial interview, the mom of eight tried to avoid mentioning Collin publicly. And every time the mom posted a photo of her children, and Collin was missing from the photo, her fans and followers would comment, questioning why the now 14-year-old hadn’t been a part of their family celebrations.
Fast forward to May 2018, fans finally got their first glimpse of Collin in nearly two years when his father and Kate’s ex-husband, Jon Gosselin, and their daughter Hannah, visited him for the sextuplets’ 14th birthday.
Hannah has been living with her father for the past year.
And ever since then, Jon has continued to share pictures of himself and Hannah spending time with Collin. It was also reported that Jon had filed for sole custody of Collin in October.
Now, E! News is reporting that a judge has awarded Jon temporary sole legal and physical custody of Collin on December 4, after Kate reportedly did not show up for the decision.
According to Us Weekly, the day before their hearing, Kate asked to have it postponed, but her request was denied.
In an interview from November, Jon told E! News:
“Collin came up for the weekend. It was his first visit in three years. He stayed with me.”
Neither Jon nor Kate have personally commented on the judge’s decision to award Jon temporary sole custody.
