Joe Jonas revealed that his parents didn’t get an invite to he and Sophie Turner’s surprise wedding on May 1.

As Dearly reported, Jonas, 29, and  Turner, 23, tied the knot at a chapel in Las Vegas just hours after the star reunited with his brothers at the Billboard Music Awards.

As US Weekly reports, during an interview with Sirius XM on Thursday, the singer revealed his mindset when it came to the unexpected ceremony.

Jonas said:

“Well, in my mind, you know, that was the legal portion of the marriage. So I was thinking, like, ‘Look, this is not the most important day. There’s an important day, I mean, I’ll keep private, but ahead of us. So we were, like — this is, like, just whoever’s in town.”

However, the newlywed’s parents apparently didn’t share the same feeling.

He explained:

“[My parents] have an amazing restaurant in North Carolina and I think, like, a couple of their staff walked up and were, like, ‘Congratulations! I saw.’ And then they had to find out. So I was doing a lot of, like, apologizing and ‘Hey, you guys want to come out to L.A.? I got you four spas at the Four Seasons.’”

As it turns out, the entire ceremony was meant to be a secret. Although word spread after DJ Diplo shared video clips from the ceremony on his Instagram. Diplo told Ryan Seacrest during an interview on Monday, June 3 that he “didn’t know it was a serious wedding.”

US Weekly reports that Diplo said he didn’t realize he “was the only one recording this thing.”

Further, a source reportedly told US Weekly that the couple is planning to hold a second ceremony in France this month.
