Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s youngest child, Samuel, recently celebrated his seventh birthday — and his mom went all out for the occasion.

The birthday party was “a very heavy Viking-themed ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ birthday extravaganza,” Affleck told Entertainment Tonight.

Garner even dressed up as “Astrid,” a character from the hit film. Although, her son’s reaction wasn’t quite what she expected.

Apparently, Samuel has outgrown his appreciation for costumes.

The mom shared a photo of herself donning the costume at the party, along with the caption:

Well, guess what. It turns out 7 is the age my kid stops thinking it’s cool when I dress up for the party. #youngestchild #firsteyeroll #anyoneneedanAstrid

Affleck later told ET at the premiere of “Triple Frontier” that his ex-wife was heartbroken that her son didn’t like her get-up. He said:

“I was shocked as anybody when I saw Jen come out as Astrid. But then she said Sam was like, ‘OK Mom. We already have an Astrid.'”

He added:

“I felt so bad. She was devastated. She had gone to all these lengths to put on the costume… We’re just not that cool.”

Affleck said he participated in the Viking theme but “didn’t go to quite those extremes.”

Affleck and Garner confirmed their separation in 2015, after 10 years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in October 2018.

Despite their split, Affleck said his ex is a “wonderful” mother to their three children, Violet 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7.

On Monday, he told “Today“:

“When somebody’s the mother of your kids, they’re going to be the most important central person in your life and that’s good.”

Garner is currently in a relationship with boyfriend John Miller and Affleck is rumored to once again be dating is his ex, Lindsay Shookus.

Regardless, it seems the two are working hard to co-parent in a way that’s healthy for their kids.
