Actress Jennifer Garner, 47, was named People’s “Most Beautiful Woman” of 2019 this week — and her reaction confirms why she’s so deserving of the title.
The mother of three stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday to reveal her cover for People’s “The Beautiful Issue,” and couldn’t help but feel shy about the award.
Garner told the host that she thought most people would expect someone like model Kaia Gerber to win, rather than her:
“I’ve never been more nervous than I am today. I guess I thought you guys would boo. You know what I mean? Like you guys are expecting Kaia Gerber and it’s me. I feel like bolting.”
But DeGeneres said the actress was more than deserving:
“You’re a beautiful person inside and out.”
Garner said she never felt like “one of the pretty girls” growing up, but that never mattered to her thanks to her family. She told People:
“I felt good about myself back then! That is the lucky trick. Looks weren’t a big deal in my family. I don’t think my parents ever said ‘You’re pretty’ and so we just didn’t think about it.”
These days, the “Peppermint” star said she feels best when she ditches the red carpet and just spends time with her children, Violet 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7.
Garner explained:
“I’ll feel like the best possible version of myself. They’ll look at me and say, ‘Can you wash your face? Can you put your hair in a ponytail and put your glasses and sweats on?’ And I see the compliment in that. They just want me to look like Mom.”
On top of acting and parenting, Garner works as an ambassador for Save the Children, a charity. Her cover issue is out now.
