On April 15, NBC’s “Today” show host Hoda Kotb shocked her colleagues and her fans when she announced that she secretly became a mom of two.
In 2017, Kotb and her longtime partner, Joel Schiffman, adopted their first daughter, Haley Joy. Now, as Dearly previously reported, Haley is a big sister after Kotb adopted another little girl she named Hope Catherine.
Hours before the announcement was made, Kotb shared this image reading “Choose Hope” to her Instagram account:
Kotb said of being a mother of two:
“First of all, she’s laying on the boppy pillow right now and I’m feeding her and I can’t believe it. I’m so happy she’s here.”
She continued by saying Haley loves being a big sister:
“This morning at breakfast (Haley) was trying to feed (Hope) her raspberries and I was like, ‘Not yet, babe.’ She was literally marching around saying, ‘I’m a big sister!'”
Co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Jenna Bush Hager eventually got to meet Kotb’s newest bundle of joy.
Guthrie said of Hope on Wednesday:
“Jenna and I went right over, right after the show. I don’t even know if we were invited, but we went in and we saw the baby. She’s adorable. Hoda is doing great and is just so happy and pleased. It’s really wonderful.”
Hager later added that Haley loves being as close to Hope as possible:
“We went over, and we saw — look at that, baby Hope in Savannah’s arms. And that precious Haley, who was so in awe of her baby sister. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
[…] The fact that they wanted to be so close to each other. This is what Hoda’s prayed for. And she actually has prayed for a baby sister for Haley because she and her sister are so close.”
Since Monday, however, Kotb has been fairly quiet as she enjoys her maternity leave.
She took to Twitter on Wednesday to thank the countless people who have sent her messages following Hope’s adoption.
