Divorce is never fun.

However, how you handle the aftermath can determine the difference between a continued amicable relationship and one where both parties forever ignore each other.

Finding the balance is important.

One ex-couple proved that you can still love someone without being in love through their mature co-parenting tactics. Codie LaChelle McPhate wrote on Facebook:

This is my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn. They’ve been divorced 28 years.

She went on to explain that her mom has “bad knees” and her stepdad “works out of town,” ultimately leaving their lawn overgrown. So, when McPhate’s younger siblings inquired as to why her dad was mowing their lawn, she replied:

“Because, She needed help, and he knew she couldn’t get out here to do it, so he did”

Even though McPhate is now 32 years old, it’s still important for her to see her parents treating each other with respect. She added how fortunate she is to have parents who show her, “how to treat people, and how to love your family, no matter how it came together.”

While the Internet is gushing at the former lovers, McPhate added an edit to her post to update followers that her father is “humored” by the viral nature of the story. He proclaimed he’s “no saint,” but that:

“He just wants to show others that you don’t need to act like an angelic pastor on lent, but that we should all choose kindness whenever we can.”
