Libby Sanders suffered “a freak accident with a screen door” and had to have her left pinky amputated.

When she was painting her nails the other night, she mentioned to Matt that it was kind of a bummer that she didn’t have a pinky nail to paint.

This is who I married….I was painting my nails and made a comment that I forget I don't have to paint my pinky nail…

What he said to her that night proved just how lucky she was to have a man like Matt that in her life. She writes, in part:

“Matt said, ‘I will be your surrogate pinky. You can paint my pinky to match your nails for the rest of our lives.’ And so we did…”

Libby tells Independent Journal Review that it’s “just a pinky” and she’s come to terms with what has happened; but it’s because of who she has been married for almost six years that she’s able to feel this way.

Libby and her husband aren’t only best friends, but they’re “soulmates,” and he tells her she’s beautiful every single day.

“We get a lot of eye rolls and ‘sure…right’ when we say that because a lot of married couples say they married their best friend. I’m saying that we started as best friends and then got married.

“Even after the accident he said, ‘You’re no less beautiful than you were the day before.’ He truly is an amazing man. I am blessed to call him my husband and friend.”

For the time being, Libby has to wear her wedding ring around her neck because of the swelling from her accident. And although it breaks her heart she can’t wear the ring like it’s suppose to be worn, the unconditional love they have for each other is all that really matters.
