While talking on the podcast “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy,” actress Hilary Duff revealed what she did with her placenta after she gave birth to her daughter last month.

As Dearly previously reported, on October 25, Duff and her boyfriend Matthew Koma welcomed their first child together, a baby girl named Banks Violet Bair.

She said of the moment she first held their baby girl in her arms:

“They hand her to me and I’m looking at her…babies are like floppy little worms. They just don’t have any control. She reaches up both of her arms and like curls into me…reaches up her arms right at my neck like as to give me a hug. I couldn’t believe how strong she was. It was so clearly like a hug…it was amazing.

It made me feel like she was like, ‘Good team, mom. We did it.'”

Duff also has a 6-year-old son from a previous relationship.

While on the “Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy” podcast, Duff said she ingested the placenta from her most recent birth experience, explaining that she turned it into an afterbirth smoothie.

According to E! News, the mom-of-two said:

It was the “most delightful smoothie I’ve ever had…I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was like 10 years old. It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious.”

She explained that she chose to turn the placenta into a smoothie rather than pills— as some new moms do— because she heard “placenta burps are not ideal.”

Duff said she has even turned the leftover placenta into ice cubes for future smoothies.

The actress said her son, Luca, is aware of his mom’s special ice cubes, adding that he even asked to see the frozen placenta.

After seeing it, however, the 6-year-old responded by saying, “He was like, ‘I wish I hadn’t have asked.'”
