Hilary Duff Celebrates After Baby Girl Sleeps For 11 Hours. Fans Slam Her for Asking a Specialist for Help

Hilary Duff opened up about her baby not getting enough sleep at night.

Three months in and her daughter Banks still isn’t falling asleep or won’t stay asleep for more than 40 minutes at a time. But on Monday the former “Lizzie McGuire” star, 31, poured out jubilation on Instagram when her baby stayed asleep for 11 hours with the help of a specialist.

However, when it comes to parenting the newborn, some fans were quick to call out Duff for allegedly using “sleep training” instead of letting her child develop a sleep routine on her own.

We have a sleeping baby! Baby whisperer/ genius/ brilliant /calm and loving Kimberly (actually baby care specialist and postpartum doula) ( @sweetdreams.la ) spent this rainy weekend with us and got our sweet girl sleeping! The poor thing was running on adrenaline… literally not sleeping unless she had a warm human to sleep on and even then 30-40 minutes max! Not realistic for our lives with going back to work and another child! Babies NEED sleep and our little girl is the happiest I have ever seen her! She slayed 11 hours last night and woke up with the biggest gummy smile I have ever seen! She has the tools to fall asleep on her own and it was so amazing (and a little emotional) to watch. I’m so proud of her and us! This was the right choice for our family! I honestly didn’t remember what good sleep felt like! Pretty delicious!

Banks is Duff’s second child, and first with partner Matthew Kroma. She went on to say:

According to Stanford Children’s Health healthy newborns up to about 3-months-old should sleep a total of 15 hours and get around 9 to 10 hours of nighttime sleep.

For the busy mom and dad, Banks’ sleepless nights posed a serious challenge. However, some moms said this should be expected with a newborn. One commenter wrote:

So you sleep trained a 3 month old … ?

Does nobody every wonder about how the baby is handling it? All I see are moms that need sleep but np one is worried about the wellbeing of the baby. Not a fan of sleep training … I didn’t become a mom thinking it would be easy and I could just cut corners at the expense of my child?
While one commenter wrote:
Your baby needs you sleep training is just deciding not to parent at night.
What do you think of Duff hiring a specialist to train her baby to sleep at night?

What do you think?

  1. We made sure our babies were fed, burped & had a fresh diaper & clothes on & there were times they cried themselves to sleep! We love our children! Everyone of them are loved & cared for & when they got their days & nights mixed up we would wake them up during the day & let them sleep at night! Problem solved! It worked for our parents & it worked for us! Hillary don’t ever let anyone bully you into not doing what’s right for your child!

  2. I personally think people should mind their own business. If Hillary and her husband think a sleep specialist is best for all involved that’s fine. If you do not think you need a sleep specialist that’s fine too. To reach their own. No one read harmed. Be kind.

  3. Honest to God, people truly suck. Good job, Hilary, for recognizing that you could use some help and following through on it. You did what was best for YOUR baby! You are absolutely correct that babies need sleep and it sounds like it only took a couple of days to get your baby on track to get the best nights’ sleep as possible. I thought about hiring a sleep specialist when my daughter was having issues, but I never did, and here I am 3 years later and she is FINALLY sleeping through the night in her own bed in her own room. We all could have gotten much better sleep years ago! Haters are gonna hate, so just ignore ’em!

  4. I think people should mind their own business. She is the baby’s mom and she should be able to do what she wants with her child

  5. Hmm if I were a human of any age I’m pretty sure I’d choose 11 hour of sleep I’ve 30 min here and there. These jelly moms are reaching hard to excuse their angry for their child not sleeping when hers does. Maybe if they got some sleep their insanity would go away. My son was sleeping through the night by 3 months. I did have to do a middle of the night feeding but after I’d burp him he’d go right back down for another 4-6 hours. He is now 20 months and has always loved going to bed. He gets the giggles just walking to his room at night or nap time. He nuzzles and then fakes me out with a kiss and goes right back to nuzzling. I never had to have him cry it out. Though there were a few times in the at about 10 months where he’d cry. I’d let him go for about 5 mins then go in to the room and rock him in the dark and he’d go right down when I payed him down. Every kid is different, some aren’t big sleepers but if you can find what helps them sleep better I don’t know how anyone could say that a better night’s sleep is somehow harmful?

  6. We had help sleep training our baby, and she sleeps SO much more now then she ever did on her own! We wanted to do it FOR her, and in return she is super happy, has a strong immune system, and has grown much faster too.

  7. As a parent of a child that would only sleep an hour or two at a time for the first 9 months of her life I say way to go Hillary don’t let anyone make you feel bad. You made the best decision for your family. People seem to forget that if mommy and daddy aren’t getting enough rest they cannot parent effectively. You know the old saying if momma ain’t happy no one will be happy.
