After Hilary Duff Says Her Baby Girl Has Colic, Fans Point to the Brussels Sprouts in Her Diet

Last week, actress Hilary Duff took to social media seeking advice from other parents.

The 31-year-old welcomed her first daughter, Banks Violet Bair, in October alongside boyfriend Matthew Koma.

But as Dearly previously reported, the new parents have been struggling.

Duff posted on Instagram that baby Banks has colic and they’ve been having trouble trying to soothe her. She wrote:

Calling all parents of colic babies…..this ends right? Can you ever set them down with out them screaming OR waking up? We have read everything the internet has to offer… nothing besides nursing basically every hour or less helps! We have done all the obvious things ..please leave magic tricks in comments. Oh and happy new year lol ??? #thankGforfilters #babyforsale !!! #anytakers??

Many parents jumped in with suggestions from trying homeopathy to going to the chiropractor.

However, it seems a group of parents seemed to come to a conclusion on what the issue might be after the mom posted a photo of herself munching on some vegetables, Popsugar reports.

Duff was flooded with comments warning of the effects that eating brussels sprouts while breastfeeding may have on the baby. One parent wrote:

Brussels sprouts are a very gassy food as well as cabbage and could be causing sweet baby a tummy ache.

Another said:

Sweetheart that right there could be the reason for colic.

However, the effects brussels sprouts have on breastfeeding babies is still up for debate.

Some parenting websites claim that the gas-inducing vegetable can cause trouble for little ones, while others claim that research doesn’t support that.

But Aurora Health Care, a non-profit, recommends that moms avoid the vegetables “in excess” because it may cause gas or change the flavor of the milk.

Other foods to avoid include broccoli, cabbage, garlic, lentils, spices, onions, and melons.

Though many fans are pointing to brussels sprouts, it’s worth noting that Duff never actually confirmed that’s what she was eating in the photo.
