Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been behind bars since she was convicted in her mother’s 2015 murder — but that hasn’t stopped her from finding love.

The 27-year-old, who is currently serving a ten-year sentence, is now happily engaged, a family friend has confirmed to E! News.

Gypsy was charged with second-degree murder after she encouraged her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder her abusive mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.

Dee Dee had Munchausen by proxy (MSBP) and forced her daughter to feign illness for years and unnecessarily use a wheelchair.

Chillicothe Correctional Center

Gypsy said that her mother beat her and restrained her if she didn’t follow along with the charade. Her father said in an interview last year that his daughter was fighting for freedom:

“She was just a bad mother. You can call it Munchausen by proxy or whatever, but you can’t keep somebody like that all their lives. It’s just part of nature, to want to be free. If you think you can manipulate someone all their lives and for them not to bite back at one point when they had enough, then you’re completely mistaken. I think she asked for what she got.”

Now, Gypsy is finding some happiness in prison.

Family friend Fancy Macelli told E! News Gypsy is engaged to a man who wrote to her in prison after watching a documentary about Dee Dee’s killing.

“That turned into a relationship through email. And then he went and visited her… That was the beginning of this friendship, which turned into something more than a friendship. At the beginning of this year they decided to get engaged.”

Macelli added that Gypsy has “been keeping under wraps for a little bit. It’s very exciting for her, she’s very excited.”

The 27-year-old is currently wearing a wedding ring that belonged to a fellow inmate and will pick out a ring with her future husband when she’s released from prison.

Macelli explained:

“Another inmate was getting divorced and gave her that for her to just have, so that she could feel good about it.”

The happy couple plan to go ring shopping together so that they can have “their own intimate moment.”

Gypsy will be up for parole in 2024. Her ex-boyfriend, Godejohn, is currently serving a life sentence for Dee Dee’s murder.

She turned out to be an attractive young lady. She seems to know what she did was wrong and deserves to be punished. I’m happy for her if this guy is on the up and up! She deserves to be happy after all she went through… Best Wishes to her!

Sorry but she is not supposed to have property that belonged to another offender. She can get in trouble for that.

My guess is that nobody cares. Let her have this one ounce of happiness in the hell that has been her life. In my opinion she doesn’t belong there she just didn’t have a good enough lawyer. The abuse she suffered is enough for any insanity plea and she would’ve gotten the help she needed. But no you have to be miserable in your own life and point out something that probably only you give a shit about.
