In April, Jesse Williams, best known for his role on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and his wife of five years, Aryn Drake-Lee, kissed their marriage goodbye.

According to E! News, Williams was the one who filed for divorce, seeking joint legal and physical custody of their two children, as well as the termination of his wife’s spousal support.

In a previous interview with USA Today, Williams said the two made it through both the highest of highs and lowest of lows:

“I was a teacher when I met her, so she’s been with me through all different facets of my career. She’s stuck with me through thick and thick and thick and thin.”

But after his career took off, rumors sparked, alleging he was no longer happy in his marriage. A source told Page Six:

“She poured money into this relationship and sacrificed her life for him, and now he wants to go out and be the hot single Hollywood guy. Jesse wants to … do whatever he thinks will make him a bigger star. He’s drinking his own Kool-Aid and it’s ‘the Jesse show.’ He’s dead f ** king wrong. He did not respect those vows. He wants to be single.”

But now, Williams has had enough of the rumors and speculation.

In the mini-documentary ― titled “Footnotes for ‘4:44’” — the actor got candid. Per E! News, he spoke about his failed relationship, saying:

“I was in a relationship 13 years, 13 real years, not 5 years, not 7 years, 13 years and all of a sudden mother f**kers are writing think-pieces that I somehow threw a 13-year relationship — like thee [sic] most painful experience I’ve had in my life like with a person I’ve loved with all of my heart — that I threw a person and my family in the trash because a girl I work with is cute.”

His message was loud and clear.

The drama, however, is far from over.

In June, it was reported that Williams and Drake-Lee’s custody battle had turned ugly. Via court documents obtained by E! News, Williams said:

“Aryn restricts my time with the children and decides when, and for how long I may have them. She has rejected, without any reason, each and every request I have made to have the children sleepover at my residence. On the few days that I have the children, Aryn has insisted that my time with the children be limited during the week to approximately two and half hours per day, despite my requests for more time, including overnights with the children.”

He continued, saying:

“I am therefore requesting a court order for a joint physical custody parenting plan…”

Drake-Lee’s attorney had one response to the documents:

“Protecting the privacy and well-being of their children is of paramount importance to Aryn Drake-Lee Williams. It is unfortunate that Mr. Williams has chosen to draw public attention to this difficult time and transition for their family. Aryn is solely interested in the best interests of their children, supporting a healthy relationship with both parents, and protecting the children’s privacy. Therefore, she will not comment any further on Mr. Williams’ unilateral and unfortunate public allegations.”

Drake-Lee has not publicly commented on Williams’s statement in Jay Z’s video as of Tuesday afternoon.
