Instagram star Jessica Weber shares her weight loss journey with the world via social media. With over 30,000 fans, her inspiring story has gained her quite the following.

According to In Touch Weekly, the 24-year-old once weighed 383 pounds at her heaviest. It was then that she realized something had to change. She explained her fear to the gossip site:

“The specific moment to make me want to lose weight was when my mom started crying to me after learning how big I was. She was afraid I was going to die before her.”

Ever since January 2016, Weber has been working tirelessly to create a better life for herself, both emotionally and physically.

In Touch reported that Weber elected to have weight loss surgery in order jump start her mission to live a better life. But Weber insists that the procedure is more than just the easy way out:

“Many people think getting weight loss surgery is just an easy fix. They think it automatically makes you lose weight and that’s not true. People who get weight loss surgery have to work to lose weight still. It’s just a tool to help us out. I still have to eat healthy and in portions or I gain weight!”

Experts agree. The National Institutes of Health cites weight loss surgery as “as the only effective treatment to combat severe obesity and maintain weight loss in the long term.”

And the effects are more than physical. According to The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, surgical weight loss improves “mobility, self-esteem, work, social interactions, and sexual function.”

Surgery has pushed Weber’s weight loss to the extreme; she’s dropped 194 pounds since she started.

But she’s been left with a difficult result common in rapid weight loss — loose skin.

But she’s not letting that get her down. She added to In Touch that she’s using her “sucky” loose skin to keep her motivated:

“I’ve struggled with staying motivated and getting discouraged! I just remember that I’m not where I want to be in life and that keeps me on track.”

The weight loss star told In Touch that she plans on having surgery to remove her excess skin once she hits her personal goal weight of 170 lbs.

Weber believed these hiccups are merely part of the plan. She hopes that being transparent with her life encourages others to embark on their own fitness goals. To Weber, the only thing that stops folk is themselves, adding “if you fail to plan, then plan to fail!”
