One the 25th day of the federal government shutdown, public school are left rationing the food they give their students for lunch.
According to a Facebook post shared by the Vance County Schools in North Carolina, due to the shutdown, they were “revised to a minimum level to conserve food and funding.”
Due to the Federal Government Shutdown, lunch menus in Vance County Schools have been revised to a minimum level to…
The statement reads, in full:
Due to the Federal Government Shutdown, lunch menus in Vance County Schools have been revised to a minimum level to conserve food and funding.
Starting the week of January 21, minimum level means: one main dish, bread, two vegetables, one fruit and milk.
No fresh produce will be included, except at elementary schools as part of the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program. This program will be decreased to two days each week.
No bottled drinks (water and juice) will be available after the current inventory in stock is used. No ice cream will be available.
The Vance County Schools Nutrition Program for students is self-supporting with federal funds providing meals.
We hope that normal lunch menus can be resumed as soon as possible once the shutdown has ended.
And parents’ responses to the school’s decision to conserve food and funding were mixed.
Some thought the whole ordeal was sad:
This is going to have a HUGE affect on a lot of kids because for some of them that’s the only meal they will get. Very sad
The trickle down effect, our babies. This man has got to unplug his ego.
This is Sad, because, school meals is the only food some children get to eat, believe it or not. Some parents could care less about feeding their children.
While other parents didn’t find the change to be that big of a deal:
This is a great meal…kids should learn to conserve and stop being so freaking spoiled!!
Soooooo question ? Can kids not bring their lunch anymore? Right. So all you that think it’s going to starve your children or they are going to die of thirst because there is no bottled water. Just pack it in a lunch box and send them on their way.
They are still feeding the children !!!! Relax everyone no one is going hungry !!!
Have your children’s schools made a change to their lunches as well? Let us know what you think about this change below.
