Loyal “Wendy Williams Show” viewers know the talk show host has always been very candid about her lifelong battle with drug addiction, but some say she crossed the line when she compared her struggles to Luke Perry’s death.
After a two month hiatus, Williams ended Tuesday’s “Hot Topic” discussion with her take on Perry’s massive stroke, which resulted in his death just one week later.

A lot has happened in this past week for me. Everything is happening so fast. I made it back from Malawi just in time to be here with my family, And in the past 24 hours I have received an overwhelming amount of love and support. I cannot individually respond to the hundreds of beautiful and heartfelt messages, but I see them, and appreciate you all for sending positivity to my family and I. I’m not really sure what to say or do in this situation, it’s something you aren’t ever given a lesson on how to handle, especially when it’s all happening in the public eye. So bear with me and know that I am grateful for all the love. Just, being grateful quietly.
The “Beverly Hills, 90210” star was 52-years-old when he died, and Williams implied that he may have had drug issues. After questioning if Perry lived a “wild life” as a Hollywood heartthrob, she said:
“You know this about me. I told you I’ve had my bout with substance abuse. Once you’re a substance abuser, you have to battle that for the rest of your life… Crack is wack. I was a mess, killing myself. I realized I am a walking addict. You can’t just clean it up and stop it.”
The TV host continued:
“You never know when it can pop up. I constantly have to watch the inside of my body because of hard partying, just a mess.”
As previously reported by Dearly, there has been no talk of Perry’s health issues being related to drug or alcohol abuse.
People on Twitter slammed Williams for speculating on whether or not Perry’s stroke was linked to a lifestyle of wild partying.
I can not STAND @WendyWilliams she is the ONLY person who has gone out there in speaking about the loss of #lukeperry who implied he may have had drug issues!!! What a POS deflecting her crap on a great guy who just passed!! Go away.

Why did Wendy Williams compare her life to Mr. Luke Perry? I'm so embarrassed! I had to change the channel.

@WendyWilliams my husband died at the age of 41 from a massive heart attack. Never had a chest pain, wasn’t overweight (32 in. Waist), didn’t drink or do drugs! Prayers for Luke Perry’s family. Strokes and heart attacks can happen at any time!

According to the Centers for Disease and Control (CDC), risk factors for stroke include high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, high cholesterol, and diabetes, however, “anyone can have a stroke at any age.”
