When Justin Bieber shared a photo of a sonogram on Monday, it was enough to convince some of Bieber’s fans that his wife Hailey Bieber is pregnant, until it turned out to be an April Fools joke.
The singer, 25, who recently wed model Hailey Baldwin, told fans he was taking a break from music to focus on becoming a better husband and father one day.
So when Bieber shared an intimate scan of a baby this week, fans went into a frenzy after he captioned the post: “Congratulations! The legacy continues.”
On the same day, the singer hinted at fatherhood again by posting a photo of Hailey with a perceivable bump during a doctor’s visit.
Shortly after he posted the photos, his followers on Instagram flooded his comment section with more congratulatory messages. One commenter wrote:
Super happy for you dude!! Congrats.
I knew this is what you were implying in your hit song “baby” I was right this whole time!
However, fans later discovered that Bieber was only teasing people for April Fools by pretending that his wife was pregnant.
People reacted to the April Fools day prank. One fan wrote on Instagram:
“Is anyone else upset about this? I’ve always been a JB fan, but children are not jokes… losing a child, is NOT a joke. Educate yourself and grow up.
Another said the joke was insensitive:
You should be ashamed of yourself and your poor judgement. Stop for a second and [realize] that this is completely inappropriate. Do you [realize] how many women/families can’t conceive ect? It should never be used as a April fools joke. It’s not funny and never will be …
Bieber later apologized for the staged photos of his 22-year-old model wife. And according to Elle, the sonogram image matches another image on Google.
The singer wrote:
There’s always gonna be people offended, there’s also people who don’t take jokes very well, I am a prankster and it was APRIL FOOLS. I didn’t at all mean to be insensitive to people who can’t have children. A lot of people I know, their first go to prank on April fools is telling their parents they are pregnant to get a big reaction. But I will apologize anyway and take responsibility and say sorry to people who were offended.
I truly don’t want anyone to be hurt by a prank.. it’s like when I shoved cake in my little sisters face for her birthday expecting her to laugh but she cried. You sometimes just don’t know what will hurt someone’s feelings not to compare pregnancy with cake in the face but it’s just to paint the picture of not knowing what will offend. Some might have laughed but some were offended .. I think With pranks u sometimes have to roll that dice. #prankster #dennisthemenace #sorry#truly
What do you think about the prank?
