Iowa couple Scotty and Cassy Abram got an unexpected surprise when they left a Cedar Rapids hospital.

The expectant parents didn’t think their baby was quite ready to come out, but he decided to arrive moments after they got back home, according to CNN.

The Abrams called emergency services who rushed to help the mom deliver her baby at the house. Larissa Ruffin, the mom’s aunt, said:

“EMT arrived about 10 minutes later and they let dad cut the umbilical cord on the living room floor.”

Three firefighters from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department tended to the mom and baby. Meanwhile, Ruffin noticed two firefighters clearing her niece’s snowy driveway outside.

She snapped a photo and shared it on Facebook.

Firehouse #5 thank you so much for shoveling my nieces driveway after she gave birth in her living room this morning! Literally brings tears to my eyes! Thank you!

The firehouse later shared the photo on their own Facebook page, adding that the “coolest part” is “these two firefighters in the photo responded to the scene in their own vehicles to shovel.”

Ruffin said she was thankful to the firefighters who went above and beyond. She told CNN:

“I was in such awe of their selflessness! It’s amazing what some will do for others without knowing anything about them. It was not their job to come and shovel.”

Scotty Abram Jr. was born healthy. Both mom and baby are doing well, said the aunt.
