A Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy went the extra mile for a little girl, who’s birthday cupcakes were ruined in a car accident on her way to school.

According to Fox45, last week Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sue Bolwerk responded to an accident involving Journey Huey, 8, and her grandmother Hali Huey in New London.

As Fox45 reports, Hali recalled:

“We were going down the highway and taking Jojo to school with her cupcakes for her birthday, and the next thing you know, we weren’t going down the road, we were going across the road.”

Journey, a student Sugar Bush Elementary School, also recalled the scary crash.

She said:

“We were just driving normal, because we didn’t see anything, so then we just flipped over!”

Fortunately, neither Journey nor Haliwase harmed, but the cupcakes they worked so hard on the night prior were ruined.

Fox45 reports the Journey and her grandmother had made the cupcakes from scratch.

Journey said:

My grandma helped me, but I mostly did most of the work. There were 16 of them, and I made some flowers on them and stuff, with M&Ms and some sprinkles, and some frosting.”

Deputy Bolwerk tended to the two at the scene of the accident and escorted them to Journey’s school.

However, Bolwerk decided to help the birthday girl out a little more.

Bolwerk said:

I thought, you know, she needs cupcakes on her birthday, so I ran down to FestivaI (Foods), don’t know, I think I grabbed about 30 of them — I wanted to make sure they had enough, and then brought them to the classroom.”

Journey was “really surprised” by Bolwerk’s gesture and her grandmother was brought to tears.

Hali said:

“There she was with all these cupcakes, and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh! How wonderful!’ and that’s when I start crying…she got me!”

Other family members commented on the School District of London’s photo of Journey and Bolwerk expressing their gratitude.

Ashley Huey commented:

Officer Sue made Journey’s birthday just a little bit more special. It was very kind of her to make that special effort of going out of her way to buy her cupcakes out of her own pocket and hand deliver them to Journey at her school. It will definitely be a birthday Journey will never forget!?

According to Fox45, Sugar Bush Elementary reports not a single cupcake went to waste.
