Actress and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Denise Richards shared an unconventional parenting approach on Tuesday’s episode.
The mother of three girls, Sami, 15, Lola, 13, and Eloise, 7, isn’t ashamed to admit she’s an overprotective mom.
The 48-year-old, who recently married longtime boyfriend Aaron Phypers, said she was once a wild teenager who loved to have a good time but definitely went against the rules.
So to keep her daughter from following in her footsteps by sneaking out of the house in the dead of night, she installed surveillance cameras to monitor her 15-year-old’s comings and goings, as reported by People.
She explained during the show:
“Sami’s getting into high school and new school, new boys. That’s when kids usually start sneaking out. I started sneaking out when I was 15 years old, so I know my kid’s going to sneak out.”
“I’m putting cameras up so I can catch her. … We’ll be able to see people sneak out or sneak in.”
The former “Bond” girl said she’s mainly worried about her oldest going out to meet boys without her permission.
In a previous episode, Sami — who isn’t allowed to date until she’s 16 — called out her mom for being too strict. Richards said this week:
“She’s going to hate me for this.”
She later told Phypers:
“She’s so mad about this. But whatever. At least we’re honest! I could have hid these.”
Richards co-parents Sami with her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen. But, Sheen, 53, said he trusts his daughter’s judgment and gave her permission to take a date to a homecoming dance.
The teenager’s mom, however, was pretty adamant about no boys until 16 but joked about her decision:
“My mom and dad were strict with me. I couldn’t date until I was 16. So maybe I’m actually doing a disservice because I then went the opposite way!”
Her daughter said she wants a boyfriend just because her mom said she can’t have one.
