A California mother is speaking out after she says her mildly autistic son came home from daycare covered in bruises.
The mom, Breonna Wills, told KTVU that the injuries occurred when her 1-year-old son was taken on a field trip from Prime Kingdom Kiddos Daycare in Richmond to nearby Oakland.
Wills said she didn’t give permission for her son, Navy, to be taken on the trip, which the daycare denies.
She didn’t notice her son injuries until she picked him up and brought him home. The mom explained:
“I got out of the car, I took Navy upstairs [where there’s] more lighting and that’s when I noticed all the bruising all over his face. He has a scratch under his chin. Pinch marks in his ear. Dried blood in his ear.”
The horrified mom took her son to the hospital, where doctors informed her that he possibly “fractures and broken bones in both his face and in one of his legs,” she wrote on Facebook.
Wills decided to share photos of Navy’s injuries on social media, along with a warning not to take children to the daycare.
Wills wrote, in part:
It hurts my heart to know people who you entrust with your children can be the very people who neglect, hurt and abuse them.
The daycare told the mom that Navy caused the injuries by hitting himself in the face with a doll. But Wills’ attorney, Te’Reisha Grave, said that’s not likely.
She told WTVU:
“The doll that they are saying he hit himself with, it’s like a rag doll, so it’s like a soft doll. Check out where you’re putting your kids. Make sure the daycare has cameras and make sure you know all the staff.”
Prime Kingdom Kiddos Daycare is licensed and operators maintain they had permission to take Navy off the premises. They now intend to sue Wills for slander.
The child’s injuries were reported to Child Protective Services and police.
