Illinois mom Terra Langfeldt thought her 3-year-old daughter was in safe hands at Fun-N-Fit Daycare in Peoria — until she got a call from her husband last week.

According to WEEK, the mom was leaving work when her husband informed her that there had been a mix-up at the day care.

A social worker has mistakenly taken their toddler from the care center. Langfeldt told the outlet:

“A social worker had come to the day care to retrieve a child for a scheduled family visit and when she went into the day care, the day care facility sent my daughter instead.”

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois later confirmed that the social worker picked up two children during naptime after showing her badge. One of the children was Langfedlt’s.

The mistake was realized when the mother to whom the little girl was brought said she wasn’t the correct toddler.

Langfedlt and her husband said they are working through a lot of emotions. She told WEEK:

“I feel like my husband and I have kinda been going through phases of different emotions; anger, sad, heart broken, needing answers, you know you want answers. Where was she? How long was she gone? Because these were things they could not answer for us.”

The mom wrote on Facebook that her husband sometimes does repairs for the day care and that the response from the center has been frustrating. She’d like an apology from the care center.

The social worker worked for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, which told Dearly in a statement that it reported the incident:

LSSI has a 151-year history of caring for children.

We are concerned about this matter and reported it to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. We understand that they will complete an investigation. In addition, LSSI is conducting an internal review.

We take our responsibilities very seriously and strive to provide excellent and compassionate care in all we do.

The day care told WEEK that “a perfect storm of flawed processes and unfortunate events led to the wrong child being transported from our preschool by Lutheran Social Services earlier this week.”

It has been in contact with the family and is working to investigate as well.

The mom has decided to pull her daughter out of the day care even though the little girl “wants to be with her friends.”

Stupid is as stupid does. I would make sure the facility is checked for qualifications as for those it employees to ensure they follow the procedures about who is allowed to remove children from the facility.

I can understand the parents side
As well as the child. Parent arescared for their child and never know what might happen
.then there is the air of the child. O. E she has been checked out by the doctor and found nothing wrong why not let her be with her friends. Mistakes can be made by us all. O am sure the daycare has learn their lesson and tighten things up so that will never happen again. After all she is with her friends . Tearing her away from them would make it difficult to get to know other children all over again. Parents please understand her side .

I have a friend that is fostering through LSSI and has had 6 case workers in less than a year! No wonder the case worker didn’t know which child was supposed to go for the visit!

Don’t social workers who pick up young children have a photo of the kid they’re picking up with them for I.D. purposes?
