Former professional soccer player David Beckham is getting into the holiday spirit with his 7-year-old daughter Harper.

The doting dad of four posted a photo of him and his only daughter sharing a kiss while ice skating on Instagram:

Christmas is coming ?? Let’s go skate ♥️

A post shared by David Beckham (@davidbeckham) on

Beckham captioned the photo:

Christmas is coming. Let’s go skate.

And while the majority of his followers found the picture “beautiful,” “sweet,” and “lovely,” some found the photo inappropriate.

According to some commenters, they don’t think the father should be kissing his young daughter on the lips:

Very digusting!

This is not right!

How can you kiss this little girl on her lips?

Weird – It’s improper for a parent to kiss their kids in the lips; on the forhead/cheeks is cute though.

Why are they kissing on the lips??!?!!

Disgusting

Not on lips. Cheeks is ok.

Yo I don’t care what anyone says if a dad kisses a child on the lips it’s completely wrong smd

People quickly rushed to Beckham’s defense saying it’s the people who think it’s wrong for a father to innocently kiss their daughter on lips who are wrong.

Even New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady showed his support.

The professional football player wrote:

Dad and daughter. So sweet!

Brady himself also got shamed last year when his Facebook show captured a kiss shared between him and his son, Jack.

You can watch the scene, which begins roughly 10 minutes in, below:

S1:E3 The Social Game

Tom Brady may be the greatest football player of all time, but football is a team sport. As Tom puts it, he’s nothing without the guys around him. So, Tom takes some of his closest teammates to Yellowstone for a brotherhood bonding experience aka “Gladiator Camp.” But even on vacation, the training never stops.

The comments left on Brady’s Facebook video closely resembled those left under Beckham’s photo.

As Dearly previously reported, fans also stuck up for Brady as well. Some said:

“If you kiss your kids too much, it’s the wrong thing. If you kiss your kids too little, it’s the wrong thing. If you hug too much — people need to back off and stop parent shaming.”

“The Tom Brady kissing his kid being a thing on the Internet is depressing. The guy seems like a great dad and is affectionate with his kids. That’s a great thing.”

And this isn’t the first time Beckham got shamed for kissing his children either.

Kiss for Daddy ❤️

A post shared by David Beckham (@davidbeckham) on

He said back in 2017, according to E! News:

“I got actually criticized for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips. Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange. But, I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up and Victoria [Beckham], and it’s how we are with our children…We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and we’re very affectionate with them.”

What do you think about the way Beckham and Brady show their children affection?

I still kiss my kids on the lips and they are in their 30s

I still kiss my kids on lips. My father always did it with us. I think there’s bigger things to be concerned with in this world then the affection between a child and then parent having a moment they will always remember.

So because you chose not to than nobody else should? I’m confused, are you the sun we all are expected to revolve around? I don’t kiss my parents on the lips, but I kiss my kids on the lips. From 3 to 23 yrs old my kids are, and I didn’t stop kissing my oldest on the lips until she was a teenager. So which one of us is wrong?? Quick answer: neither.

I kiss all my children on the lips and always have! Nothing is wrong with it whatsoever! My children are now 20, 21and 24. I was also raised the same way and always felt loved and secure. I commend you for showing your children love and affection.

When you are raised with affection then that’s what you know… my parents where super affectionate with my brothers and I. We are the same with our children. When I see Brady or Beckham kissing their kids lips, cheeks, nose, etc… Super heroes in my eyes!

My little Great-grandson, who is 5, often comes to kiss me on the lips. Would some people think I should push him away?

I love it!❤️ Children should be confident in the fact that their parents love them. That’s a bond that’ll exist throughout their lifetime.
