A Florida man went into a rage after he said he caught his 7-year-old stepson sneaking out of bed to get a cookie.
The 31-year-old man didn’t yell at the boy and take the cookie away, though.
WFLA reported that, as punishment, Jack Junior Montgomery viciously beat Brice Russell to death. According to prosecutors, Montgomery repeatedly punched him in the head and stomach in the Florida motel room where the family lived.
Assistant State Attorney Matthew Smith described the torture the stepdad put the 7-year-old through in front of his two brothers leading up to his death:
“(Montgomery) picked him up and flung him as described by the other brothers, helicopter across the hotel room into what’s kind of a cabinet, where he hit head first. And ultimately caused his brain to bleed.”
The child died within seconds or minutes of the brain bleed after the violent hit to his head.
Smith said the boy’s mother, Donya Shenita Russell, wasn’t home but working a double shift at the time:
“While she was out working he chose to not only physically discipline this child himself, by not only repeatedly punching and throwing him on the ground but threatening bodily harm upon the two brothers if they did not partake and equally discipline him.”
WTSP reports one of the terrified children told police Montgomery threatened to beat them if they didn’t join in and hit Brice.
But the stepfather’s cruel punishment didn’t stop once the boy was dead. He turned his anger to the child’s brothers next.
Smith said the man continued to torture them — by forcing the children to sleep next to their brother’s lifeless body. Smith said:
“As if that was not aggravated enough, Mr. Montgomery took the child, put him in bed and had his siblings sleep with him while Mr. while Brice was dead that entire night,”m
Montgomery is being held on an $870,000 bond for Brice’s murder.
WFLA reported he has a long history of domestic violence and battery. Now, he is facing a possible death penalty for the murder charge, according to WFLA.
