The humiliated dad stood outside the changing room with his child, and only one mom was willing to stand up for him.
As The Sydney Morning Herald reports, Tamika Ives was at a shopping center in Queensland, Australia, when she witnessed a bizarre altercation in the parents’ room. The 18-year-old mom had gone into the room to change her daughter’s diaper, entering at the same time as another mom with two young boys.
As Ives walked into the changing room, she noticed a dad was already there, struggling to change his son’s diaper. The boy was clearly making things difficult for the dad. That’s when the mom who had just entered with Ives attacked the father, demanding he leave the room immediately. As Ives wrote on Facebook:
[T]he lady piped up and started abusing the dad for being in the parents room. “It’s only for mothers, get out you sicko,” literally saying she would call security and say he was staring at her naked kids if he didn’t leave the room.
Cowed by the stranger’s tirade, the dad picked up his son, still unchanged, and left the room:
He picked up his son who mind you didn’t even have a clean nappy on yet and went to stand outside the door. His son was hysterical and he’s just saying, “[I]ts okay mate, we’ll go back in there soon.”
There were other moms who watched the dad get chased from the room, but Ives told the Herald that none of them spoke up:
“There were a lot of other mums in there at the time, but they sat and turned away.”
It was the strange mom’s threat to tell security that the dad was a pedophile that spurred Ives into action. She told the Herald:
“I kinda wasn’t sure at first if I should say anything because I had my nine-month-old with me, but as soon as she started saying she was going to falsely accuse the dad of being a pervert, that was when I decided I wasn’t going to let him stand there and cop it.”
Ives went out and found the father, who was still waiting outside the changing room with his son. She wrote:
“[I] told the dad to come back in and finish changing his son, told the lady that if she wanted to call security to go ahead because I would 100% back the dad up. She DIDN’T even change her kids, just had them in there playing so she could sit on her phone. I was BEYOND disgusted.”
Ives waited for the dad to finish changing his son’s diaper before she left. She said the woman continued to play on her phone and stare down the father until he was done.
As she departed the changing room, Ives warned a security guard about the woman with the grudge inside:
“As I left I spoke to a security guard walking past — told him what the other mother had done and said. I was absolutely shocked that the poor bloke felt he had no choice but to leave like she said. ITS A PARENTS ROOM NOT A F**KING MOTHERS ROOM.”
Ives concluded by suggesting that moms who have a problem with men in the changing room should stay away themselves. As she told the Herald:
“I just think it’s ridiculous, I can’t believe some women act like that. He’s a parent, he’s a dad and I think it’s disgusting.”
