A Louisiana mom is heartbroken after her daughter vanished from a Carnival Cruise Line ship just days into what was supposed to be a romantic vacation with her husband, as Dearly previously reported.

Marilyn Winfrey told KLFY that her 44-year-old daughter, Juwanna Brooks, stepped aboard her very first cruise last week and is now missing after she allegedly fell overboard.

But now the mom says she has her own suspicions about what may have occurred.

According to WWL-TV, Juwanna was on the second day of her five day vacation with husband Scott on Sunday when she fell overboard into the Gulf of Mexico.

Nikki D’Andrea, a passenger on the ship, said she saw the couple having dinner before the fall:

“It was scary. We went to the balcony and looked over. They threw the life thing over and they had a search light going. Really sad, it was awful.”

D’Andrea said that she heard the couple arguing at dinner, just 30 minutes before Juwanna went over the ship’s railing.

The woman’s devastated mother said she doesn’t believe that her daughter just fell or jumped— because her short stature would make it difficult. The mom told WLFY:

“I did hear rumors that she possibly jumped, but there’s no way she could, she’s only 5 foot 1. There’s a lot of rumors going around and we don’t know, it’s still under investigation by the FBI. We’re still waiting we haven’t heard anything yet.”

Regardless of what happened, Winfrey said she just wants some closure:

“I’m still believing that she’s going to come home one way or the other. I want her to come home. That’s mainly what I want right now, just to have closure.”

Mexican authorities are currently leading the search, but the FBI is also investigating. It remains unclear if the husband is a suspect in the case, according to WWL-TV.
