A man and woman appeared to be using their big hearts to educate school children in South Los Angeles as owners of a private school until their real identities and sexual crimes were recently exposed.

KTLA reports Joseph Horace Green and Chanell Nicola Warren owned and operated the Enlightened Minds School, but those weren’t the names they were using when they were running the school and charged with sexually assaulting a student.

The couple blended into the community as owners of the private school that they founded in the late 90s, going by the fake names Ty and Tisa Yiyara, even being praised by then-Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan for:

“Their outstanding work as educators and mentors to the students.”

Their covers were blown when students noticed the two adults were sleeping with a student on a school camping trip. Later, police discovered the two had allegedly taken a girl into an RV parked at their home and had been sexually assaulting her for several weeks.

The pair was charged with sexually assaulting the 16-year-old student in 2000, then vanished for 17 years.

The two “educators” went to great lengths to hide who they really were by covering up past sex crimes with new names and educational credentials Green bought through a mail-order catalog.

Green claimed he was a former Air Force captain with a degree in social work from Dallas Baptist University in his fake background credentials, not mentioning the fact he was already a registered sex offender.

He had been arrested and charged with three counts of sexually molesting a minor two years before he opened the Enlightened Minds School with Warren.

The 52-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were finally captured less than a month after their crimes were featured on HLN’s “The Hunt with John Walsh.”

According to CNN, they were busted after 17 years on the run when facial recognition technology located them in Florida.

Green was charged with sodomy, sexual penetration by a foreign object and four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, facing up to six years and four months in prison.

Warren faces six counts of oral copulation of a person under the age of 18 and sexual penetration by a foreign object— and could spend up to eight years behind bars, KTLA reported.

The couple was home-schooling their four children at the time of their arrest and looking into opening another school to run.
