Actor Colin Firth, best known for his Oscar Award winning role in “The King’s Speech” and his wife, Italian film producer Livia Giuggioli, have been married since 1997.
Their private life is now being exposed after Giuggioli filed a complaint against her alleged “stalker,” as The Times reports.Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
According to The Times, Giuggioli accused 55-year-old Marco Brancaccia, an Italian journalist, of “harassing her with a ‘frightening’ campaign of messages.”
But Brancaccia has denied those claimed. In fact, his side of the story was a little different.
The journalist told The Times that Giuggioli was lying to cover up the affair they had between 2015 to 2016. He said Giuggioli told him that she wanted to leave Firth and that their marriage “had been over for years.” He said:
“My ‘stalking’ consisted of two messages via WhatsApp after she ended our relationship in June 2016, and an email. I wrote an email to Colin about my relationship with Livia, which I now regret sending, and she filed a complaint against me for stalking out of fear that I could go public with what she had revealed to me about her marriage and work. In a year she sent me hundreds of messages of love, photos and videos, even a diary.”
He elaborated that he “regrets” involving Firth because he had shown “understanding.”
Now, in a newly released joint statement from Firth and Giuggioli, the still-married couple confirmed the affair between Giuggioli and Brancaccia:
A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited.
Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.
The statement continued:
For obvious reasons, the Firths have never had any desire to make this matter public. The reporting this week on this case is understood to be the consequence of a leaked court document. This is greatly to be regretted.
The couple, who split their time living in England and Italy, have two children together.
