People across social media are taking part in a bizarre new internet challenge that involves throwing cheese on unsuspecting babies.

WXYZ reports, the prank was reportedly started by a Michigan dad who flung a slice of American cheese at his infant and shared a Facebook video of his son getting “cheesed” with the caption:

“You asked for it, here it is! Attack of the cheese Episode 2. He wasn’t happy after this one …”

The peculiar trend took off last Thursday when another Twitter user shared the same video with the message “just cheesed my lil brother” and the clip quickly went viral over the weekend by garnering more than 8 million views on Twitter, reports the Daily Mail.

The user by the name Unclehxlmes decided to delete the video and issue a correction, but that didn’t stop the clip from spreading across the internet.

But many parents were unamused by the challenge and urged people to stop sharing videos of their little ones getting cheese thrown in their faces.

In most cases, the children were unharmed but many looked confused or perturbed by the prank.

As reported by NBC 4, one mom who participated in the internet craze said of her baby:

“You gotta learn how to live a little. He isn’t upset. It’s not like I threw a bag of flour at his face. We all have our different ways of parenting, mine’s just a little cheesy!”

However, model Chrissy Teigen slammed the challenge and weighed in on the discussion on Twitter. She wrote:

“I love a prank as much as anybody but I cannot get myself to throw cheese at my adorable, unsuspecting baby who has all the hope and trust in the world in me.”

Some parents claimed the act was a harmless joke, however, Children’s Rights executive director Sandy Santana said people should think twice before throwing an object at a helpless baby. Satana told the station:

“Parents should, first and foremost, treat their children with care. Throwing cheese at helpless babies can, in some cases, shock them and lead to unnecessary discomfort. Is that really worth a few social media likes?”

Videos from the “Cheesed” challenge continue to rack of likes on social media.

What do you think about the prank?

Is it physically hurtful? Probably not. Is it confusing to the child, Probably yes. Is it a socially acceptable way for the thrower to release aggression? YES, if the defenders of this practice are any gauge. Will the aggression escalate to cruel teasing as the child grows? More than likely. Your baby is counting on you for protection. Don’t do this.

Maybe it doesn’t hurt them but it’s mean. Your children trust you. Don’t ridicule your babies by following some stupid social media trend.

A parent who takes pleasure in scaring, harassing or hurting an infant should be arrested and have their child removed from the home until the parent undergoes a psychiatric evaluation and parenting classes. There is something very wrong with a person who thinks this is a humorous prank.

“Do I think it’s ok to kill a baby in womb just prior to birth? Of course I do, it’s a woman’s body and she can do what she wants. However, I think it’s extremely wrong and hurtful to throw cheese at such “an adorable, unsuspecting baby who has all the hope and trust in the world in me”. – Chrissy Teigen

If you’re not ok with this, but have ever laughed at those videos of children getting scared by things like a Jack in the box, or the vacuum cleaner, or just a parent or sibling, then you’re a hypocrite.

Don’t do anything to a child that you wouldn’t want done to you! Why on earth would you want to throw chees in a baby’s face? Grow up parents. And if your child did that to a sibling you would be the first one to be pissed off!

Just a bunch of overgrown bullies!!! The schools are trying to STOP the bullying – but then the idiot parents promote and put it in a video – Agree that the whole world has gone mad – why ruin the trust that a toddler has developed – you, as the adult are to be good role models, not a bunch of hoodlums.

How incredibly stupid has our society become? Would the parents like being hit in the face by the person they trust most in the world?

Wow, That is not even hurting the kid, They are just playing with them, And when you laugh with the kid they know that. It is not like they are aborting them after childbirth, Which I think is worse

Who made this comment “A parent who takes pleasure in scaring, harassing or hurting an infant should be arrested and have their child removed from the home until the parent undergoes a psychiatric evaluation and parenting classes. There is something very wrong with a person who thinks this is a humorous prank.” Let me ask you something, do you have kids? If so have you ever played hide and seek and when they’re about to find you jump out? Kids love that shit. Have you ever play peek a boo & the child jump a little? IT’S CALLED HAVING A LITTLE FUN WITH YOUR CHILDREN. YALL MFS ARE WAY TO UNTIGHT & MAYBE NEED A SLICE OF CHEESE THROW AT YOU. ALOT of you who said that this was ABUSE was probably not loved as a kid or had parents that never played games with you. & IT SHOWS. Loosen tf up people.

  • Anonymous 6 months ago

Well Brandi, Hide and Seek is a lot different then throwing cheese into an infant’s face and yes I have kids and yes we played games, but I NEVER took pleasure out of getting a scared reaction from my children. That’s wrong. My sister, brothers and I were abused by our mentally unstable mother growing up and she took delight in scaring us with various things and of course physicially hurting us. Try telling my siblings and me we are uptight when we experienced it first hand. You are entitled to your opinion, but be aware that some parents are mentally unstable and it’s not always your innocent game of peek a boo!
