People across social media are taking part in a bizarre new internet challenge that involves throwing cheese on unsuspecting babies.
WXYZ reports, the prank was reportedly started by a Michigan dad who flung a slice of American cheese at his infant and shared a Facebook video of his son getting “cheesed” with the caption:
“You asked for it, here it is! Attack of the cheese Episode 2. He wasn’t happy after this one …”

The peculiar trend took off last Thursday when another Twitter user shared the same video with the message “just cheesed my lil brother” and the clip quickly went viral over the weekend by garnering more than 8 million views on Twitter, reports the Daily Mail.
The user by the name Unclehxlmes decided to delete the video and issue a correction, but that didn’t stop the clip from spreading across the internet.

But many parents were unamused by the challenge and urged people to stop sharing videos of their little ones getting cheese thrown in their faces.
In most cases, the children were unharmed but many looked confused or perturbed by the prank.

As reported by NBC 4, one mom who participated in the internet craze said of her baby:
“You gotta learn how to live a little. He isn’t upset. It’s not like I threw a bag of flour at his face. We all have our different ways of parenting, mine’s just a little cheesy!”
However, model Chrissy Teigen slammed the challenge and weighed in on the discussion on Twitter. She wrote:
“I love a prank as much as anybody but I cannot get myself to throw cheese at my adorable, unsuspecting baby who has all the hope and trust in the world in me.”
Some parents claimed the act was a harmless joke, however, Children’s Rights executive director Sandy Santana said people should think twice before throwing an object at a helpless baby. Satana told the station:
“Parents should, first and foremost, treat their children with care. Throwing cheese at helpless babies can, in some cases, shock them and lead to unnecessary discomfort. Is that really worth a few social media likes?”
Videos from the “Cheesed” challenge continue to rack of likes on social media.
