Former “The Bachelor” alum Lauren Bushnell knew her boyfriend, country singer Chris Lane, was writing her a song.
But she had no idea the song he was writing was just a part of a bigger plan that was in the works.
On YouTube, Lane posted the music video for his new song, “Big, Big Plans.” It was a song he wrote with Bushnell in mind after the pair have been dating since early fall of 2018. However, Lane and Bushnell have been friends for years.
The video started off with Lane saying he wanted Bushnell to hear the song for the first time and that’s why there were cameras all around them. He then began playing the song.
The video quickly changed to moments they’ve shared over the last several months before the cameras turned back to Bushnell, who was beginning to realize what was happening.
Some of the lyrics of the song are:
“..And imma put a diamond on her hand. She don’t know I got some big, big plans, She don’t know I got some big, big plans. She don’t know. I already bought a ring. Hid it in the bottom left drawer right beside the sink. Shiny emerald diamond on a brand-new band, asked her mama for permission and her daddy for her hand. I got some big, big plans.”
The song later continues:
“Here I go, ’cause right now we’re back in her hometown and I’m down on one knee, I guess she finally figured out I’m gonna ask her to marry me.”
And that’s exactly what Lane did, he got down on one knee, told Bushnell that she was the “best thing that ever happened to me,” and asked her to marry him.

I can’t stop smiling ? I feel so incredibly blessed that every misstep, mistake and heartache has led me to you. I couldn’t be happier to call you mine, forever. The journey was well worth it. Thank you Christopher Eric Lane for softening my heart and making it whole. Never going to stop telling you how much I love you and I will hold onto you forever and ever! Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it ? PS he wrote me a song ? I linked in my bio for y’all. I can’t stop listening or looking down at my hand ? thanks @people for covering ?
She said “yes.”
Fans thought the proposal couldn’t get any sweeter. One person said, “I’ve watched this so many times already. This was so precious I can’t even handle it. I adore this couple.”
Lane told People he was never more nervous in his life:
“Even though I felt pretty confident I was going to get the ‘Yes,’ I’ve never been that nervous. When I got to the third verse of the song and knew it was time, I pretty much blacked out. The next thing I knew, she said ‘yes’ and the nerves just lifted! It’s an explosion of excitement, pure joy, and love.”
And Bushnell called it the happiest moment of her life:
“Chris is the most thoughtful person. He clearly put so much time and thought into not only the song, but also making sure everyone I love most was surrounding us in that moment. Holding each other, hearing the song for the first time and then seeing him get down on one knee is a moment I’ll never forget.”
Bushnell also quipped on Instagram that “Lauren Lane has a nice ring to it.”
