A young woman in Texas was arrested and taken to Ector County Jail for allegedly leaving her 3-year-old son unattended in her Jeep while she partied at a local nightclub.

Odessa American reports that Itzel Vazquez-Barrera, 23, went to The Lift club at 10:08 p.m. on Tuesday, where surveillance video showed her having a good time drinking as she danced and took selfies.

While Vazquez-Barrera was at The Lift, the Odessa Police Department said they received a call after a witness spotted a child alone inside of a white Jeep Liberty. When authorities arrived, they found Vazquez-Barrera’s son unsupervised and crying.

The mom had left her toddler alone in the car for one hour. She exited the nightclub a few minutes after police arrived only to be arrested and charged with child endangerment, reports My SA.

Police said the woman’s son is now with a family member and the incident has been reported to Child Protective Services.

According to Kids and Cars, it’s legal to leave a child alone in a car depending on the circumstances and the state.

However, Texas law prohibits leaving children under 14 in cars alone for more than five minutes. The penalty is six months to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine if the child is injured while being intentionally unsupervised.

Vazquez-Barrera’s son was not physically harmed in her vehicle.
