“Teen Mom” star Catelynn Lowell and her husband, Tyler Baltierra, had to defend their parenting after fans were outraged by a scene in the latest episode of “Teen Mom OG.”

Lowell decided to go out, leaving her crying 4-year-old daughter, Novalee, to have a meltdown. Fans quickly took to Twitter to call out Lowell for leaving her daughter at home to go to the spa while she was throwing a temper tantrum.

Some said the separation pointed to Novalee having “abandonment and anxiety issues.”

One fan wrote:

Nova’s tantrum was due to the fact that whenever Cate would leave her in the past, she would be gone for months. It’s super sad that she has to deal with that, she is just a little girl.

Another person said:

It’s clear how deeply its tramatized Nova, but they all laughed when she flipped out. Why did kaitlynn have to say ‘I’m leaving!’ at first to set her off? And why couldnt Nova go with her for a mani pedi or something? Its so sad to watch.

Lowell and Baltierra both took to Twitter to address their daughter’s temper tantrum. The parents said Novalee was in good hands, and fans were blowing the situation out of proportion.

The reality star tweeted about her decision to have a spa day and said her “me time” was for her birthday. Catelynn tweeted:

Nova was FINE two minutes after I left!. That was my first time by myself in MONTHS!!! And it was my birthday! If you are a parent you know that sometimes u need me time!

According to Novalee’ s parents, she wasn’t upset for very long.

Baltierra also chimed in and shut down the mom shamers.

The 27-year-old reality star tweeted:

Wait…so a kid throws a fit nowadays & we’re calling it ‘abandonment anxiety issues’!? I must have not received that memo, but thank you to all of the social media child therapists for this new diagnosis. Hahaha!

“Teen Mom OG” continues with an all-new episode next Monday at 9/8c.

Kids have meltdowns. They get over it quickly. You can’t run and shown them attention when they throw a tantrum. You’re not helping them. You did the right thing. Don’t listen to these people who are raising kids that in the future the DOC will discipline.

We are excited to announce Dearly has joined forces with Mama’s Uncut. Helping Mom’s across the United States answer questions on life’s big challenges.
