On Monday, “Today” co-host Carson Daly took to Instagram to congratulate Jenna Bush Hager on her pregnancy.
As Dearly previously reported, Hager shared the big news with her “Today” colleagues, announcing not only that she is five-and-a-half-months pregnant, but that they are also expecting their first son.
Daly, who was on vacation with his family at the time, posted his congratulatory message to Hager on Instagram.
He joked that there is “baby making juice” in the mugs that sit on their desks during the show after both Hoda Kotb and Hager announced their growing families.
If you’ve ever wondered what’s in our Today Show mugs…now you know!! Congrats to Hoda Kotb Jenna Hager! I go away for a week & the family grows..God bless us all! I better watch my mug
However, fans took offense to the host’s comments, calling them insensitive towards his other colleague, “Today” meteorologist Dylan Dreyer.
As Dearly previously reported, following Hager’s announcement, Dreyer opened up about her recent miscarriage, her struggles to get pregnant with her second child, and her decision to start IVF.
Some of Daly’s followers called him out for his congratulatory message:
Seems tone deaf given the 3rd hour
This ‘it’s in the water’ and ‘baby boom’ talk is unbelievably insensitive to Dylan. You can be happy for others without insinuating that getting pregnant is easy.
So happy for all but I also feel so bad for Dylan amongst all this baby news.
Congrats to them! Now praying for Dylan!
After seeing some of the backlash he received, Daly responded to a now deleted comment.
According to People, Daly wrote that his comments “had nothing to do with being ‘easy,’ more that I left for a few days & 2 colleagues announced pregnancies. Dylan’s article is amazing and I love her to death!”
