Samantha Jones has been accused of killing her baby by feeding her breastmilk tainted by drugs.
An autopsy done on her 11-week-old baby boy showed that the baby, who died in April, was killed from methadone, amphetamine, and methamphetamine, according to FOX 29.
Jones told police officials that she had started to switch the baby to formula milk a few days prior to the baby’s death.
But at 3 a.m. on April 2, the baby woke up crying and Jones allegedly decided to feed the baby breastmilk because she was too tired to walk downstairs to make the bottle of formula.
Then, around 6 a.m. the same day, the baby was crying again so Jones’ husband made formula before leaving for work. Jones fed the baby formula and put the baby down around 6:30 a.m. and went to sleep.
When she woke back up, the baby boy had bloody mucus running from his nose and was pale.
The mom called 911 and tried CPR on the infant but to no avail.
Police arrived around 7:30 a.m. and found the baby in cardiac arrest. The baby was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to FOX 29.
According to police officials, Jones said that she was addicted to painkillers during her pregnancy so she was prescribed methadone, which she took during her pregnancy. She was still taking the prescribed medicine while breastfeeding her child.
Jones was charged with criminal homicide and her bail was set at $3 million.
