Oklahoma police arrived at a disturbing scene Saturday night after getting a call that a father had been stabbed and collapsed in his driveway.

According to the Oklahoman, Neil Vaughn had a stab wound to his chest and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

When investigators knocked on the door to speak with wife Amber McMurtrey, she said that her husband had been stabbed by an unknown assailant outside the home.

But from the doorway, investigators could see blood on the living room floor, according to an affidavit, the Oklahoman reports.

Police immediately asked the wife if they could search the property. But she was arrested after she denied them access, Fox News reports.

The couple’s 8-year-old son was home at the time of the attack and was taken to safety by a caseworker while police investigated.

Once inside, authorities made a disturbing discovery.

There was a trail of blood leading from the couple’s bedroom all the way out to the driveway where Vaughn was found, the Oklahoman reports.

They also found both drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the home, and a witness told police that she’d seen the wife assault her husband “multiple times while she was intoxicated.”

Their 8-year-old son initially said that a “masked person came in and stabbed my daddy and then left,” but his story changed with some encouragement from his grandmother, People reports.

After the boy’s grandma told him to “not tell any stories,” the young boy admitted to authorities that he saw his mother stab his father — and he even knew where the weapon used was.

According to Fox News, the boy told investigators that his mom “hid the reindeer knife above the toilet.” And sure enough, that’s exactly where they found the weapon.

McMurtrey was charged with first-degree murder, child neglect, and possession of drugs and paraphernalia. She is currently being held without bail.
