Anyone who has ever tried to get a prize out of a claw machine knows how aggravating it could be. Though few of us choose to handle the disappointment the way young Mason did.
As Titusville Fire and Emergency Services wrote on Facebook, dealing with “the unexpected” is one of the things that draws people to their profession. And what happened at a restaurant in Titusville, Florida, was definitely unexpected.
While having dinner with his mom and some friends, Mason saw a toy he wanted in the restaurant’s claw machine. As the fire station wrote:
This evening little Mason was enjoying some food and decided he wanted a stuffed animal. He wanted it so bad, he climbed into the game to get that toy!!
Unfortunately for Mason, getting in to a claw machine is one thing. Getting out is another. Unable to exit the machine the same way he got in, Mason was stuck.
Luckily, an off-duty firefighter was already at the restaurant, evaluated the problem, and got help quickly:
Driver Operator Lane and Firefighter George were able to get Mason out in short order with minimal damage to the game.
The fire station says that Mason “was never in any distress,” and it wasn’t long before “Mom, Mason and friends went back to eating dinner.”
The happy ending was enough to give some readers a laugh — both at Mason’s audacity and the quick rescue from the Titusville Fire Department.
However, some commenters couldn’t help but wonder how a boy manages to get stuck in a claw machine without a parent noticing.
Titusville Fire added that they didn’t share Mason’s story to criticize the parents, but only “how the unimaginable happen and the fact it was a happy ending.”
And yes, Mason did get to keep the toy.
