A Year After Boy Was Found Face Down Covered in Leaves, Dad Has Been Sentenced to More Than 2 Years in Prison

As Dearly previously reported in May 2018, a search began for a little boy who was misplaced by his father.

According to The Oregonian, 25-year-old Brandon Blouin was living in the woods with an 18-year-old woman and their 1-year-old son when the woman walked away from where they were staying.

Blouin reportedly told police at the time that when he was looking for the 18-year-old he placed his sleeping son on the ground and covered him up with leaves.

However, when he went back to retrieve his son, Blouin couldn’t remember where he put him. After making his way out of the woods for help, he asked a stranger to call 911.

A search for the child took roughly six hours before he was found.

At the time, Deschutes County detective Doug Jackson and a sheriff’s sergeant said they got lucky when they stumbled upon the sleeping child lying face down, covered in dirt and pine cones.

Jackson told The Oregonian:

“I don’t think we could’ve gotten a much bigger win than this. When you have a needle in a haystack situation like this, it could go a number of a different ways. It was very much a team effort, and I’m just thankful that we found the kiddo.”

Both the mother and father of the child were found to be under the influence of methamphetamines.

Blouin was arrested and charged on suspicion of first-degree criminal mistreatment, second-degree child neglect, third-degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Now, 11 months after the search took place, Blouin agreed to plead guilty to criminal mistreatment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and felon in possession of body armor.

According to authorities, the child was found that day in May with a broken leg, cracked skull, and meth in his system.
